Singer/songwriter/guitarist, Steve Vansak, was born and raised
in Gary, Indiana, home of steel mills and the Jackson 5. Sandwiched
between Chicago and miles of farmland, Vansak experienced many different
lifestyles and musical styles. A veteran of the Midwest music scene,
his bands have run the gamut from rhythm and blues, folk, Motown
soul, pop, and rock. All of these influences and more affect his
latest release, "A Different Road".
The ten track CD is the follow up album to 1997's "Permanent
Red" and again features the Joe Roberts Band (Bill Hayden -
piano and organ, Mike Sluga - drums, Aaron Yakovetz - bass). Vansak
handles all guitar and lead vocal duties and is the sole author
of all songs. From the rock sounds of "Rocks and Bone"
and "Mountain of Pain" to the street soul of "Peace
with the Night", Vansak and company once again show musical
diversity.
"Before I decided that this group of songs would become an
album, I revisited some of my favorite artists' records", says
Vansak. "The common link was that they all drew me in emotionally,
no matter the style being played. That emotional element is something
I definitely wanted to bring to my songwriting and this new CD."
The songs "Moment" and "Battle Ground" (sung
from a female perspective) are prime examples of this approach.
